Kampala Statement on Groundwater and Climate in Africa


Professor Richard Taylor, University College London, issued the «Kampala Statement on Groundwater and Climate» on behalf of the participants of the Kampala conference in June 2008.

CPWC’s Michael van der Valk contributed to the Kampala Statement on request by UNESCO’s GRAPHIC project. GRAPHIC is an acronym of »Groundwater Resources Assessment under the Pressures of Humanity and Climate Change«. The project is exectued in the framework of UNESCO’s International Hydrological programme (IHP). GRAPHIC’s next meeting will be in Irvine (USA). CPWC’s Michael van der Valk is also contributing to the «Irvine Declaration on Water Scarcity, Global Changes and Groundwater Management Responses».

Both the «Kampala Statement on Groundwater and Climate in Africa» and the «Irvine Declaration on Water Scarcity, Global Changes and Groundwater Management Responses» are input for the 5th World Water Forum, March 2009 in Istanbul.
